I am Spanish living in Madrid. Swimming in open waters gives me a unique feeling of freedom and extreme nature. I have completed the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar and twice the Bonifacio Strait. I love to eat and drink good wine, so since fat is not a hindrance to buoyancy and it also helps me maintain my body temperature when the water is chilly, swimming in open waters is a sport that allows me to indulge in the wonderful Spanish cuisine.
Additionally, I have discovered that my teenage children have started to respect me a lot since I take on these challenges. For those of you who are thinking that this could be your sport, I also want to say that you need to train at least 3-4 days a week, and around 15-18 km per week to complete these challenges. It’s not all about eating! Plus, you always have fantastic stories to tell your friends and family.
